What is Turner syndrome?
- Turner syndrome ( also known as Ulrich-turner syndrome) is a condition in which a female is partly or completely missing an X chromosomes.
What are the treatment?
-Doctors might use a shot of a growth hormone known as Genotropin.
-Growth hormone, either alone or with a low dose of androgen will increase growth and probably final adult height.
-Growth hormone is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for treatment of turner syndrome and covered by many insurance plans.
Dominants V.S Recessive
In genetics , a trait that must be contributed by both parents in order to appear in the offspring. Recessive traits can be carried in a person's genes without appearing in that person. For example, a dark-haired person may have one gene for dark hair, which is a dominate trait, and one gene for light hair, which is recessive. It is thus possible for two dark-haired parents to have a light-haired child, provided each parent contributes a gene for light hair.
Dominant or sex-linked?
Turner syndrome is sex linked and mostly happens to females while most people have 46 chromosomes people with turner syndrome only have 45. this causes the body to make mistakes in forming the fetus.
What is a punnett square?
- Punnett square is used to predict and compare the genetic variations that will result from a cross.
- Named after Reginald C. Punnett
- Biologists use punnett square to determine the probility of an offspring having Particular Genotype.
What is a Pedigree chart?
- Pedigree chart is used to determine the phenotype of a particular gene or organism from one generation to the next.
Carriers of the disorder
Most cases of turner syndrome are not inherited. This syndrome occurs at random in the formation of reproduction cells. This syndrome is more related to a mutation than an inherited syndrome.
